Do you have a storage warehouse in Los Angeles?

I purchased a 60" television from Mathis Brothers on Nov 24,2009 and was told that since they were out of stock at the time that they would order me one and it should arrive around December 12, 2009. I asked the salesman "where is the television coming from"? and he stated from their Los Angeles warehouse. I was fine with that since Los Angeles is just about 50 to 60 miles from Ontario. To this date December 16, 2009 I'm still waiting for this television to arrive not at their Ontario store but at my house in the same city. I should have gone elsewhere because I would have my television sitting in my living-room by now. Lesson learned is if it's not in stock don't bother to purchase, go elsewhere that can deliver on their promises. Sincerely in Ontario, Ca

Hello Everyone,

I am former sales associate from Mathis Brothers, to first clarify the two arguing parties below, Mathis Brothers does not have a storage location, warehouse, overflow, or anything of that matter outside of their four locations. (Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Ontario, & Indio).

Everything they carry is ordered from the manufacture and stored onsite at the location (Hence the giant warehouse). I would agree with the original complaintee though, from the sounds of it the sales associate who assisted in the sale, lied and did not follow through completely. In defense of Mathis Brothers though, they do try their hardest to get merchandise to the customer in the promised time frame, but its not always in their hands. The manufactures and oversea's shipping companies promise these "expected" delivery dates and they are constantly being delayed.

I used to add 2-3 weeks on top of the "expected" date just to cover my butt, and also make the customer happy if it did come in on time ;-). They do have great prices, and sometimes it is worth the wait, but like the complaintee said its always better to get in stock merchandise, less of a hassle.

And if anyone was wondering I wasn't the original sales associate on this complaint, and I no longer work there because I found employment elsewhere.

NOT AN OUTLET WAREHOUSE BUT THEY HAVE A STORAGE WAREHOUSE THERE TO RESTOCK OR REPLACE INVENTORY OF NEARBY OUTLETS DUMB A>s>S

Guest

Seriously? This sounds like a personal problem!

Thats like waiting for a back order of ketchup from Stater Brothers, when Ralph's down the street has the same ketchup!

Go to Best Buy! Go to Target! Go online! Everyone now these price compares, there is no reason to even wait!

Also Mathis Brothers doesn't have a warehouse in Los Angeles (haha)

The unethical sales staff at the Indio Store!

At the Indio Mathis Brothers store we asked for a quote for some expensive chairs. We shop there quite often as we have a holiday home in the area. But as we were returning to our primary home we asked for and received the quote by email. We responded by email we would take the chairs, but could you please check for a different finish to match the table we had bought earlier.

We had to keep calling numerous times over the next few weeks to get the sales rep to respond and finally he did-rudely. He told us "He had spent too much time on this just to sell 8 chairs, and anyway the price was no longer available".

We called the sales manager and he told us "It was our fault as we didn't put a deposit down"! We said "The sales rep didn't ask us for a deposit so how is that our fault"? He told us "We should have asked". We must say that is truly a sorry excuse. It is not ethical to provide a price and not keep it. Last it is a true affront to a long time customer.

We hear that more and more of this "The Customer is Wrong" is occurring at the Indio Mathis Brothers store since the past GM, Robin Hood, was moved to the Ontario store.

We will never shop in the Indio store again!

YOu have got to be kidding me you cant just do that

Hello. Welcome to planet earth. We have much to teach you.

First, companies can change prices whenever they please. You can buy it at that price and the price might go lower. I'm sure in that instance you would demand a refund, right?

It's higher now. You didn't jump on a great deal wen you had time. Too bad so sad. Get a freaking life!

Horrible service

We visited the store on a Saturday and found a very nice TV stand at a great price. I should have known that first day the type of service I was in for. The salesman was extremely pushy. Once my husband and I decided to go ahead with the purchase the salesman rushed us to the cashier counter to get the order entered. We were told that there was one piece in stock and we should receive it by that following Wednesday. I took that day off so that I could be home when they delivered the stand however I was called late in the morning and was told that there were parts missing so they would have to reschedule. I was a little annoyed but decided ok. I called the following Sunday to find out when I could expect the redelivery only to be informed that the entire order had been canceled. I advised that person on the phone that I did not cancel the order and explained what happened. She then transferred me to a "sales manager". His whole attitude was like it was no big deal. He didn't apologize and only made excuses...trying to find fault somewhere else. I explained to him that so far my experience with Mathis was not the greatest and I was quickly losing confidence in the store. He then started to tell me that the piece of furniture I was ordering was a great piece...like I didn't already know that! I didn't have a problem with the furniture...it was their service! He then proceeded to tell me that the piece would be in stock the following Saturday. I called the Friday night before and was told now that the stand was expected in stock by the end or March or early April! I was livid! I have gotten nothing but the run around. No one can give me straight answers and even worse was no one really seemed to care. Their attitudes were like it was no big deal. I am extremely disappointed and will never shop there again!

Venzant, you're an ***! when you buy something it better be *** near perfect.

if there is a default with your purchase and call to inform the store of said defect, they need to get that taken care. not blame the consumer, make excuses, etc.

Guest

If you are looking a reviews to decide to purchase at Mathis Brothers or not, you shouldn't rely on complaints of others. You make your own experience not the employees.

If you are smart, polite and know what too look for and ask, your experience will be great. If you are dumb, rude and don't know what you are doing, be ready for a terrible experience.

Guest

When dealing with this type of customer service, remember, being angry at fools is like being mad at fire for being hot. And use the 100 year rule... If it won't matter in a hundred years, get over it.

Guest

While it appears to be a new furniture store, it really should be advertised as a

"refurbished" furniture store. If the price is low, chances are there's a scratch or mar somewhere.

We bought a beautiful occasional chair that looked perfect and when we got it home, underneath the price sticker was a huge crack. It was obvious the corner had been broken off and it had been reglued. The price was low enough that we didn't complain.

In the future, if we go there, we'll know the used furniture prices are for a reason. By the way, we were also told that it was the "last one" so that seems to be a common M O used by the sales staff.

Guest

They are a big company and they don't care.

Guest

i just experienced mathis brothers' HORRIBLE SERVICE!!! i was very reluctant at first to even shop there, cuz i already felt that their prices were a bit pricey, but gave it a chance anyways.

my husband and i actually found a sectional that we liked, that fit our family room & for what we thought was a great deal. however, it was a floor model, but we thought, its ok, we're getting a pretty good deal. so we go ahead and purchase it. we had to wait a week for them to deliver it cuz we work mon-fri, so sat would have been the best day we were available.

when it gets here, they sent us the wrong piece! they sent us the reversed style of what we ordered. so we have to refuse it. wasted our day waiting for it.

now when i call them to let them know it was wrong, they inform us that they have to go look for it! what the *** is that? first of all they shouldn't be telling their customers that they can't find our pieces. now when i speak to them the so-called supervisor that i spoke to, Orlando from the Ontario, CA, store, was ridiculously rude.

now i do QA for customer service and he definitely would have gotten the worse score with me, what more..FIRED! how does a customer service rep go off and throw attitude back at my face when i'm the customer. he let out a "sigh" of rudeness that expressed that he didn't want to listen to my call. HELLO!!!

that is his job, to listen to complaints. he wasn't even trying to apologize it. kept going off that he was trying to say he was accommodating me. he was so rude and unaccommodating that he just added on another problem to my list.

but he messed with the wrong person. he thinks that i am just going to let this go.

i am filing a complaint against him with their corporate office in tulsa and will be contacting media outlets to inform them of the horrible service that Mathis Brothers is providing. consumers should be aware and well-informed before throwing their money away to Mathis Brothers.

Guest

it is even worse working there because I really wanted you to have a nice sofa or cahir and when you did not get it, there is noooooooo manager backing the salespeople. They are on their own and must face a firing squad everyday.

That is why every time you go in there, they have different salespeople. And the Designer that helped you is not a designer. People make sure you find out if they have a degree or are certified.

They have many many people who like to call themselves "designer". Be afraid, very afraid........

Most people's money is hard earned. Was it a imported chair, because those are always uneven and should be delivered so they can be put together and checked.

85% of wood products that are shipped have to be touched up before delivery and your sells person properly should of informed you of this. Was it a option to pay for and get delivery it may of saved you a headache.

I got a new dining table & entertainment wall. I love it, & the guys who loaded it up actually went out of their way to make sure everything was safe for the ride.

In retrospect, I should have had it all delivered... My back hurts

Guest

Amen Joe, and also, *** the caps lock.

It's not the point of if it was damaged before you got it home or not, it's the point that you should've check it out. I've picked up quite a bit of furniture from them and, even if it's boxed, I open it up then and there to inspect it before transport.

It's called using a bit of common sense, something that most people lack. I feel for you, I really do, and it's a shame that you wasted your money, but let this serve as a lesson for future purchases no matter where you go.

On hold, no call back, hung up on me

I have been trying to reach Mathis Brothers customer service for over a month. My first calls resulted in being placed on hold over 30 minutes by the anwering machine, while the computer offered me to leave a message for customer service. I left several messages over a 2 week period, no return call. During the 3rd week I got Crystal to answer the call but she hung up on me when I told her that I've left several messages but no one calls. I called right back and got Nathan who told me that yes my bar stools were under warranty and that I could load up my bar stools and bring them in and they would fix them, or they would charge $30.00 to pick them up. I explained that I had paid for the bar stools to be delivered, they were the most expensive bar stools that Mathis Brothers had. He said someone would call me back in the next week, 10 days have passed, no call from Mathis Brothers.

I ordered a couch and was not happy as the product was not holding up after two months and $8500 later. I called and was places on hold and later left messages that were not returned.

I visited the store and meet with the customer service manager and was provided a full refund or replacement. I feel that we must be fair as this company does sell to many families and there will always be some that will not be happy.

Happy customer! :)

Wrong Chair given at purchase.

I bought a recliner/rocker in April. I did not get the right chair. I could not get back into the store until the 1st part of June. At that time I was told it was to late. I should have come in within 30 days. This really is not right. I should have been given the right chair in the first place. I know you will not do anything but just wanted you to know that I do not think that is a good policy. I think if someone is given the wrong thing it should be replaced as long as it is not torn up. Which mine still looks like it did the day I got it as I do not sit in it, as it is very unconfortable.

How is this MB's fault? If the chair was delivered, you should have checked before signing for it, if you picked it up, you should have checked before signing for it.

And then, once you realized you had the wrong one, did you even call them? Sounds like you waited 4 months to do anything at all about it.

I fail to see how this is a bad policy on MB's part. In fact, I can't think of anywhere where this scenario would fly.

Guest

i agree wth both responses. who waits 2 months to say i got the wrong item?

especially in this age when everyone has a cell phone and can makes calls from anywhere. i think you are being the unreasonable one here.

Guest

I have to agree with DJ, except for the last part of the comment which was unnecessary and rude. If you order the steak and you get the chicken, do you wait for an hour before sending it back?

Different item, same concept. Also, if you get the item delivered, inspect it prior to the delivery people leaving and/or signing for receipt. If it's wrong, send it back and call the store. Also, prior to purchase read ALL of the fine print.

Never sign a written document until you understand everything on it. Make sure you are aware of delivery times/dates.

Furthermore, if you want to insure that you get what you paid for on YOUR time and not THEIRS, borrow or rent a truck and get it yourself. Yes you'll be putting up all the furniture on your own, but at least you can ensure you get what you paid for without waiting forever and a day.

Guest

It is very unreasonable of anyone to think they should be able to exchange a piece of furniture after 2 months....2 weeks is ridiculous as far as I am concerned. If the wrong chair was recieved a simply phone call immediately would have put them on notice about the problem and arrangements could have been made at the time for the correct one to replace it....sounds to me like you decided to try out the wrong chair and decided 60 days later you didn't want it or.....you are one heck of a procrastinater which in any event I hope this has taught you a lesson to get on the ball....I sure hope for your sake you don't put off everything in your life like you did this. Not a soul would dare count on you for anything.

Mathis Brothers Indio attempts Fraud

I bought a new office suite from the Mathis Brothers Store in Indio, on June 9th,2008. They had 5 of the 7 pieces in stock, and promised the two remaining pieces by the end of the month. We got the 5 pieces home and upon unboxing them, discovered that 2 of them were damaged. We took the damaged goods back. June 25th, they call and say that 2 of the pieces are in, but they can no longer get the Main piece, (the desk), and they offer us the damaged desk that we returned, at a discount. I tell them NO, we want the NEW furniture that we paid for. July 3rd, they call, saying all pieces are in. When we get there, they try giving us the damaged desk that we returned, back to us. We refused it and they said that was the only one they had. We told them to cancel our entire order, and mysteriously they came up with a NEW, in-the- box desk. We Got it home, and when unboxed, discovered that it too had been dropped from a forklift, crushing a corner and breaking it off. Mathis Brothers offered to have someone repair it. We refused. They told us they would order new, and put notes on the account, to insure only new, undamaged furniture would be delivered. July 10th. The truck got here and started to unload a "Used" unboxed Hutch. I told the driver we did not order that. He then stated to unload a "Used" unboxed desk. I could see cracks in the side, where it had been screwed into another piece of furniture. I told the driver that it was supposed to be New, In-the-Box furniture. He told me, they told him, to tell me it was new. I refused the delivery and called Mathis Brothers. They said that there were notes on my account to only deliver NEW, In-the-box furniture. They could not understand how used furniture was being delivered. They now tell me that they will deliver "New" furniture, this time, and i should expect delivery by July 25th, almost 2 months after my original purchase. What do you want to bet, they deliver used, damaged furniture again, and try and pawn it off on me as "New" ? Use "Extreme" Caution when dealing with this company, as they will attempt to charge you full, premium price, and deliver used, damaged, or Showroom Demo, furniture, and pass it off Fraudulently as new.

I can't belive Mathis Bros has made this statement that "every piece of furniture that is shipped to us is damaged" I was thinking of buying a dining set. Not now. Mathis Bros must be using a terrible shiping company, and then they ACCEPT damaged goods only to sell it to the public as a "first." That is fraud.

Guest

This is pure fraud and deceit. Where are the consumer protection agencies ?

There should be prosecution for this.

Guest

I can tell you that I had a similar issue with this group as well.

In 2004 I bought a beautiful dining room table and 6 chairs. I was told the delivery would be in on the one day of the week they deliver to my location, in about 1 week from my cash purchase.

The driver shows and brings me only 4 side chairs. I asked where the table and the 2 end chairs were. I was told that they did not have them in stock but that they would have them soon. I called and was told that they have it on order and I should have in the next 2 weeks.

I wait and nothing happens. I call back to ask about the missing items and am told that this item is coming from China and that they have not date in their system showing when it is supposed to arrive. I get a call back later that it should be in about 1 month. I ask about the other 2 missing chairs and don't get much of a response.

A month goes by and I ask again about this delivery and am told the item is discontinued and will not be arriving. I got really aggitated and demanded that they provide the furniture that I paid for, UP FRONT, and that they guaranteed that I would have in the first week after purchase. It had been almost 2 months since my original purchase and I had given up entirely. I told them to come back and get the 4 chairs they delivered, on my schedule, not theirs, and to refund everything back to me.

I also stated that I would NEVER shop with them again. They have no idea what they are doing and can't see which way is up when they try to make up excuses for thier problems!!!

Still no desk. Mathis Brothers says they may get one by 10-15-08.

The Aspen Home factory in Scottsdale Arizona has 14 of them, in stock. I offered to drive there myself and pick it up. Mathis Brothers told me I couldn't, and wanted to charge me an extra $300.00 for them to do so.

I refused.

They need to be prosecuted for this FRAUD.

Guest

Mathis Brothers responded back to the BBB. Below is their response:

I want to assure you that no employee is ever instructed to lie.

When dealing with imported product, made in China, we are subject to availability of their containers and ship times do change without notice to us. Also, every piece of furniture that is shipped to us requires some touch up.( IS DAMAGED) It goes into trucks and on ships and comes out of the box often with minor damage and touch up is required. We will be receiving another container in August. I checked with the manufacturer and it is pushed back to the end of August now.

We can exchange it when it arrives with the customers understanding it could be 6 weeks or more before we have it available.

Our Ontario store is also out of stock and waiting on 2 containers. With the amount of trouble the customer has experienced and at least 6 more weeks before completion, I do not want to delay the customer getting their home office settled or any more frustration. I can pick everything up at their convenience and refund their money.

Horrible Customer Service!

I just recently bought a dining set and then an office set. The salesman was incredible! He had a tape measure and helped me and my husband decide on the perfect pieces. Most importantly, he listened to our needs and was patient. We were in the store for almost 3 hours picking the perfect items. The delivery date was set for a Saturday so that we would be available. The movers were wonderful as well. They were very careful and respectful of our house when moving the furniture around. Quickly though, we realized that the credenza was defective. One of the drawers was badly cracked, rendering it useless, and the side had a large crack. I immediately called the store and was told that a replacement would arrive on Wednesday. I explained that I work and that no one would be at my home until after 3pm. They told me that they could not pinpoint a delivery time and that it could be any time between 10am and 5pm. I was forced to have to take a day of leave in order to wait. The movers showed up at 4pm. The new credenza was worse than the first. Me and my husband returned to Mathis Brothers to personally hand select a new credenza to be delivered. The man working the Customer Service area, Jarred Phillips, was rude and refused to look or talk to me when I was speaking. He directed all conversation at my husband. Further more he had the warehouse guys pull down the wrong credenza to be inspected. We waited in the store for almost two hours. I finally went back to tell Jarred that we were leaving and to just have a Quality Control person inspect the desk before delivery and he told me that wasn't possible. By the way, the people lined up in there with complaints was growing by the minute. There were some very unhappy people. I inquired as to a delivery time and AGAIN was told anytime between 10am and 5pm. I explained that I couldn't take another day off of work and asked if they could arrange the delivery for after 3pm. He say no and then rolled his eyes. I was furious. Again, I took another day off of work to wait for the desk. No furniture ever arrived and no courtesy call to let me know this either. I called the Tulsa store to complain and they said that the delivery had been rescheduled for Friday and that again, I would need to wait. I then decided to contact the OKC store. I talked to Lee, a man who evidently does not know how to talk to people. He did nothing but tell me to just wait till the next day. He refused to let me talk to a superviser. When...if they come tomorrow they can pick up all of the furniture and refund my money. I will never step foot in Mathis Brothers again.

Guest

Mathis Brothers prides itself in providing the best customer service for its customers. They want all customers to be satisfied and keep coming back, in no way do they disregard customers concerns.

It makes the experience easier and better for both the customer and employee if both parties are approachable and give off a friendly attitude.

Guest

It is highly advised that all warranties are read and discussed with customer service before you purchase your merchandise. Legally these are the contracts that bind Mathis Brothers and its customers into their agreements.

The back of all Mathis Brothers Documentation has the companies agreement and disclaimers with its customers.

Guest

Mathis Brothers provides automated computer services for its customers, to provide quick updates on orders.

Simply provide your email at the time of purchase and you can receive the following updates:

- Mathis Brothers will automatically email you when your merchandise arrives in our warehouse and is committed to your order.

- Mathis Brothers will automatically email you your three hour time frame for delivery and also confirm that your delivery is scheduled for your requested date.

Guest

Mathis Brothers has always offered a Three Hour Delivery Time Frame to its customers. It is hard for them to pin point an exact delivery time, due to a computer generated route, which ensure the quickest greenest route for ALL its customers and environment, and the fact that you never know what kind of obstacles will be faced during a delivery that could make the delivery before longer then usual.

With Mathis Brothers Delivery, you get your furniture delivered, assembled, and trash disposed of. If you encounter any defects in workmanship in the furniture, Mathis Brothers will exchange the Merchandise within 7 days of delivery, and Deliver the new piece and pick up the damaged piece at no extra charge.

Guest

To "Its the customer not the emplo"...are you serious?!? You must be an employee of Mathis Brothers.

Your comment is just a little bizarre. I work in retail and I can tell you that the golden rule of business is that the customer is always right. That doesn't mean that the world revolves around you, just that when you spend hard earned money on a product, you want your money's worth.

If Mathis Brothers was simply normal in their treatment of customers this post would not be here.

Have fun at your job.

Guest

I have spoken to a couple of sales people at Mathis Brothers and it seems that they will say anything to make a sale, and not follow through in any way. They are liars and the law should stop them from making phony promises that they have no intention of keeping.

They brag about the lowest prices available and this too needs to be taken with the proverbial "grain of salt". There are many reputable showrooms that give you a complete price including free prompt delivery.

There are no bargains if you receive damaged, used or otherwise inferior furniture. Look before you leap!!

Guest

Ok, so lets get this straight the world revolves around you? What time do you want the sun to come out?

A three hour time frame is nothing! Sears made me wait all day to have a stove delivered they gave me a time frame of "We'll be there tomorrow!" I have shopped at Mathis Brothers and had no problems! Delivery was great time frame was very pleasant, they even called me 30mins before to let me know they were on the way!

I used to work retail, and you have to remember you cant please everyone, especially the ..... Work retail for a day then you wont be on here complaining

Guest

I agree, service is terrible and sales people will tell you anything for a sale. We purchased the extended care service for our sofa and when we found a defect we were told we would have to bring the sofa in to be fixed.

The customer service thing was terrible. He said that since we had picked the sofa up ourselves, they would not come out to fix it. This is contrary to what our sales person said, but he didn't care.

He simply pointed to small print on the back of receipt and walked away. I will never shop there again and will pass this info to all that will listen

Guest

they don't care about anyones time!i waited for my bedroom set from mathis brothers and they never showed up or called, so i called them and they did not have my item in stock so i geuss they decided not to call me! it goes on and on, they are a bunch off idiots there!

Lady americana...Buyer beware

I purchased a Lady Americana Matress and it was the PITS, literaly the pits, this merchandise caves in either on edges or in the middle. While on my visit to complain about this matress, I over heard several customers complaining about theirs to different sales associates.

I later approched the individuals and shared my concern, they were not getting a refund, while others were.

One of them told me the matress was purchased as is and the other was brand new. Beware when purchasing this Brand of matress...I would highly recommend to fork out the couple $$'s and buy a different brand or go some where else for the matress.

I know Lady Americana makes a variety of types and styles of mattress with some being higher quality than others.

We bought a Lady A Memory Foam Queen, had it for 4 months and had to take it back. A board in the base was broke and creaked w every movement, side wall at foot of bed bowed out, and the middle sagged.

We exchanged for an ECO which is another of their lines, and 13 month later it is just as uncomfortable.

It sags in middle w no one on the bed. Frustrated!

One of the whole mattress, one of the dents (holes) with a straight yardstick sitting on top, and a ruler showing the dents are at LEAST 1.5 inches deep (anything less is not valid warranty), a picture of the boxsprings, and a picture of the Bedframe. Bedframe has to be a 6-slatt frame of have middle support bars or else it voids warranty, A picture of foot-to-headboard as well. You have to send them a digital picture of all this the original receipt.

If there is a stain, it voids the warranty. The salesman will tell you that if you buy their $100.00 "Furniture Services" Bed Guard, if you DO get a STAIN, it will not VOID the warranty, however, what they DO NOT tell you is that if you get a stain while having this $100.00 bed guard in place, you have to notify them within 5 days of the stain, and they have to send a guy out to clean the stain. Even if you have the Bed Guard, the bed MUST be completely stain free. After 3 years, the BED GUARD rubber side started deteriorating and has thousands of micro-cracks all through it, which does not keep out stains.

THEN after all that, you have to BRING the mattress up there to them, and protect it on the way to make sure it doesnt get dirty after you just had it cleaned.

They wont pick it up. Who has a vehicle big enough to put a king size mattress in?

I am going through this huge process with them now. I havent even gotten to the part of how long will I be without a bed until you replace it? Do I have to haul the new mattress to my home myself as well?

That's $80.00 in U-Haul charges right there. They do everything they can to discourage you from being able to complete their rigorous warranty process.

I also have had issues with comfort and quality due to sagging after 3 years. Decided to RIP off top cover and put my own memory foam topper under neath the top padding. Better than spending another $2000 right now
